I am a candidate for the position of Trustee for the San Mateo County Board of Education because of my commitment that all children are entitled to a quality education, while operating within the philosophical and fiscal expectations of the community.

My active commitment to the field of education has spanned 43 years, beginning with positions as teacher and administrator at both the elementary and middle school levels, most recently as Principal of Bowditch Middle School in Foster City. I have also taught classes in educational administration at San Francisco State University and served on various school support committees such as the ACSA Legislative group and served as president of both the California Teacher's Association and the Association of California Administrators.

The desire for excellence in our schools demands attention to new methodolgy and materials to enhance the classroom. San Mateo County is experiencing demographic changes at a rapid pace which will require leadership in meeting educational needs and adapting curriculum. The requirements of meeting the needs of special education students as we learn new and effective methods will necessitate evaluative and creative guidance. Responsiveness and dedication will be required to provide leadership in meeting these needs during a period of uncertain educational funding.

My background and qualifications, educational lobbyist and strategic planner will assist me in providing input into the difficult task of equitable decision making. When elected, I will operate within the scope of the County Board of Education's ability to provide students and the community with the best educational experiences and opportunities.
