In 2000, I stated that my platform and philosophy was simple. Then as now, I believe that we must:

  • Work to bring parents, teachers, students, administrators, and the community together for our schools and children.

  • Encourage high educational standards for all students. The high stakes of "No Child Left Behind" and the high school graduation exam mean that we must give our children the best education possible.

  • Maintain fiscal responsibility. After several years of dwindling resources, the school district is now on solid financial grounds. We must fight to remain there. We must continue to look for new sources of revenue. I understand how schools are financed, and I will use this knowledge to make sure we are using our education dollars wisely.

  • Recognize that each and every child is unique. The district must make sure that the needs of the college bound, vocationally inclined, and special education students are recognized and respected.

Experience has taught me that school board membership is difficult and often controversial, but I will continue to work hard to make sure that our schools remain among the best in California.
