Position Papers
Site-Based Decision-Making and Weighted-Student Formula.
SFUSD has instituted a Weighted-Student Formula to distribute resources in a targeted way within the District. Elected School Site Councils at schools now are making budget and program decisions. We are committed to expanding and strengthening this programs through training, re-allocation of new and existing resources and looking at best practices inside and outside the District.
Parent Involvement
After twenty years of rhetoric about involving parents, we are finally seeing the School District investing money and human resources in supporting services for parents. This is only the beginning; we must explore all avenues for parents ot be more involved, like serving on School Site Councils.
School Funding
Publis schools in California are under-funded and have been since the short-sighted passage of Proposition 13 in the late seventies. Getting adequate funding for schools is a constant challenge in which we need to engage the entire community.
