Vision for the Future

I would like to see schools where the teachers and students are provided with adequate resources to make education possible and also I would like to see freedom given to students and teachers to be able to learn the way that is best and most appropriate for them. Teachers should have the academic freedom to decide what would be most beneficial for each class and child. Students need to be given a say running their schools. To this end, I would like to see a full student representative on the board. I would like to see the district working for the community not just getting input and doing what they like with it. We need to have much more transparency at our district especially in the administration so that the community and the students and teachers know what is happening with their money and their schools. We must remove the gag order and give teachers the freedom to speak their minds in public. This is an important step towards beginning to fix the enormous problems we face in our district. I want to see an end to "High Stakes Testing" and a focus away from "summative" assessment on to "formative" assessment. In the end we need schools that provide a healthy space for children to learn and grow in a way that is appropriate and most beneficial to their specific needs.
