Candidate for Council Member; City of Carlsbad

Lets talk about Parks
The Park Performance Standard of Carlsbad's Growth Management Plan adopted in 1986 requires 3 acres of Community Park and Special Use Area per 1,000 population within a park district. The General Plan is the blueprint for the City's development. Park development over the last several decades has been governed by specific plans.

The Quimby Act authorized local governments to require developers to provide land and /or fees to acquire/develop parks and recreation facilities. The Growth Management Plan approved by the citizens in 1986 Proposition E requires that new development pay its own way. Your City Council directs the process of park development, reviews the plans and provides approval of the plan and the budget. Most importantly CITIZENS should provide input during the beginning planning stages and determination of amenities . Public input is a key. Recreation Director Ken Price confirms the value of listening to residents and the importance of responding to their concerns.
