For Ron Roberts, San Diego has always meant opportunity.

Ron and Helene Roberts have been married for 40 years. They have three grown daughters and a grandson.

Ron moved to San Diego with his family in the early 1950's. Her grew up in public housing while his mother worked as a maid at the Town & Country Hotel in Mission Valley and his dad worked as a machinist at Convair.

Ron is a graduate of Kearny High School, San Diego State University and UC Berkeley, where he earned a Masters Degree in Architecture. After graduation, Ron returned to San Diego and built his own architectural firm, which grew to become one of San Diego's largest.

After nearly 20 years in architecture, Ron left the private sector for the opportunity to serve the people of San Diego. In 1987, he was elected to the San Diego City Council where he fought to make the City more business friendly, while also bolstering the Police and Fire departments.

In 1994, Ron was elected to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors where he has focused much of his energy on improving the plight of San Diego's children. In addition, Ron played a key role in turning the County of San Diego into what Governing Magazine recently ranked as one of the best-run counties in America.

"The City of San Diego is in a mess with a $2 billion deficit, FBI and US Attorney investigations for political corruption and financial misconduct, higher crime rates and gang violence on the rise. It is time to provide opportunities for all San Diegans and it is going to take strong leadership to turn City Hall around."
