LEADERSHIP FOR OUR KEY ISSUES

By Jacques J. Bertrand

Candidate for Council Member; City of Capitola

This information is provided by the candidate
LEADERSHIP FOR OUR KEY ISSUES

Keep our neighborhoods clean and safe § Maintain the infrastructure of the City and
insist on improvements where necessary. § Providing adequate policing is key.

As president of my neighborhood association, I worked on multiple civic issues: permits & planning, keeping streets clean, well maintained & safe and traffic issues.

I insisted on an active police liaison in order to stay abreast of safety issues and to make us aware of when the police department needed our support.

Defend mobile home rent control and support their purchase

§ I have worked on housing issues since my twenties. § Stable housing is very important on many levels.

Provide strong fiscal oversight for Capitola

§ A strong fiscal position allows for the City to provide needed and expected services. § My MBA and business experience equips me to work effectively with the Finance committee and the Treasurer.

Promote viable Capitola business districts

§ Understanding business needs is imperative. § The community is enriched by business services. § Sales tax revenue helps to keep taxes down.

I have been a business owner, served as chair of my district's merchant association and represented my district in the city wide business association

Promote citizen participation in Capitola

§ Work to increase civic and community participation, there are so many ways.

As president of my neighborhood association, I organized a grocery delivery service for the seniors in our neighborhood (they did the shopping and got a ride home...no cost to the seniors).

§ The door to City Hall should always be open.

Build genuine cooperation between the City of Capitola and Soquel Union Elementary School District

§ As a former trustee, I understand the needs and positions that a school district may take.

In the past relations were better and the resulting cooperation was very beneficial to the community. A good example is Jade Street Park. Now, the park is in jeopardy. I will work towards a resolution of this issue and to re-establish good relations in order to continue the work that will joint benefit the community.

§ Serving children's needs is done on many levels; having good relations with our school district is a necessary start in the right direction.
