Challenges for the Board

By Rosemary Rossi

Candidate for Board Member; Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
My goals for improving the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High Schools
The college admissions process and the stress that process creates have been topical, controversial and pressure-packed for students, parents, and the school. We need to address this issue on many levels yet remain competitive. We need to help students enjoy and value a balanced life style yet recognize that stress is a part of life. Dealing with stress in a positive, healthy, safe manner should be a goal of our schools

We need to acknowledge that not all students learn in the same manner and at the same pace. As much attention needs to be placed on the "middle" studenta as we place on our highest achievers and those with special needs. The quality of our schools reflects how we value and teach all of our students.

Cheating, teenage drinking and drug-use, and other self-destructive behaviours have become nationwide problems and they are present in our schools also. The ethical development of our students along with the development of a healthy life-style needs to be as important in their education as their academic development.

Now that the major building projects re nearing completion, our facilities will be commensurate with our academic excellence. The challenge will be to ensure that these buildings are functionally equipped so that they will be maximally utilized.

We have a highly qualified and dedicated staff. We owe it to our teachers to provide them with continued teacher development so that they are equipped with the best techniques available to reach all students.

The major challenge is to face this issues in a fiscally responsible way. I realize that as a board member I would be accountable to you for how efficiently and effectively our monies are spent.
