Message to Mountain View Voters

By Nicholas B. "Nick" Galiotto

Candidate for Council Member; City of Mountain View

This information is provided by the candidate
My priorities and actions are on the record. Are they important to you and our community?
When I ran for City Council two years ago, I listed highlights of my community leadership and said, " I am proud of my record of listening AND RESPONDING to the concerns of individual residents. If my priorities and actions are important to you, please trust me with your vote." You responded by electing me to your City Council in a strong display of trust.

Now I need your help to continue answering your concerns and representing those in our community that want to preserve our quality of life. I support building more affordable housing, but not making it detrimental to our existing neighborhoods and open space. I have acted to protect neighborhoods while providing for community needs such as Senior Center, downtown parking facility, new water reservoirs, playing fields, neighborhood park, and resident -involved traffic calming. I recently voted against raising city fees and rates across the board for residents when they face their individual tightening of finances in the present economy. And, I have been a leader in having the city set the example environmentally, and in conservation of our resources with greening public buildings, reclaiming waste water and methane at Shoreline, and reducing pollution and gas consumption through vehicle fleet modifications.

I believe I make a unique contribution as a member of the City Council. because of my extensive and varied experience in Mountain View city government. I served 26 years as a police officer and administrator, interacting with city staff at every level, and with Council as acting department head. I initiated the police department community relations unit and the police department's various community outreach programs, many of which are still active today.

I need your vote in this election so that I can continue to listen and give you a voice on the major issues we face as a community:

  • Affordable housing opportunities and associated infrastructure impacts.
  • Preservation of existing neighborhoods and traffic mitigation.
  • Attraction and retention of both large and small businesses to restore the vibrant economic environment and general well-being of the community.
  • Strong oversight of city projects such as Senior Center, parking garage, water reservoirs, recycled methane and water, plus private developments like HP(Mayfield) and Emporium sites.

I ask that you once again trust me with your vote on November 2.
Nick Galiotto
