MATTHEW T. DEAN

  • Councilmember, City of Campbell (Term ending 2004)
  • Candidate for Campbell Union High School District Governing Board

Matthew Dean was first elected to the Campbell City Council in November 1996 and subsequently re-elected in November 2000 to a second 4-year term. He served one year as Vice-Mayor in 2000 and one year as Mayor in 2001. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, and both a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science Degrees in Computer Science from California State University at Chico. Matthew is also an inventor and has 7 U.S. Patents and a number of additional patent filings.

As an elected official, Matthew has served on a number of committee and commissions:

Professionally, Matthew has held numerous individual contributor and management positions at TRW Vidar, ROLM, IBM, Siemens, Compuware and XACCT Technologies. He currently is employed at Borland as a Development Director.

Matthew has been married since 1985 to his wife Jayna and they have 4 children, all attending public schools. Jayna is a Registered Nurse who worked for Kaiser for 15 years. Currently, she works for the Campbell Union School District as a nurse to ensure that a parent is home when their children are out of school. Their oldest daughter is Jennifer. She is 14 and attending High School at Del Mar High School in the Campbell Union High School District. She is a straight A student and participates in both Cross-Country and Swimming. She is an outstanding year-round swimmer with numerous Far-Western Qualifying and Sectional times. Chris is 13 and attends Monroe Middle School in the Campbell Union School District. He is on the Wrestling Team and Plays Baseball. He is also a straight A student. Whitney is 12 and also attends Monroe Middle School. She swims year-round and is on the Soccer Team. She is another outstanding straight A student. Courtney is 10 and attends 5th grade at Castlemont Elementary School in the Campbell Union School District. She is a very good student, swims year-round and plays on a Comp level under 11 girls soccer team.

Matthew loves sports, golf's, rides a bike or runs nearly every day and plays in a men's basketball league. Matthew is also a private pilot. He donates time to a variety of organizations, including U.S. Swimming as a Stroke and Turn Judge and the Country Woman's Club of Campbell each fall as a server at the annual Crab and Pasta Feed fundraiser. Lastly, he with the help of his father built his family's home.
