WHO RUNS THE ELK GROVE POLICE DEPARTMENT?

By Marnie Case

Candidate for Director; Elk Grove Community Services District

This information is provided by the candidate
Elk Grove deserves 'truly' independent Police and Fire Departments as well as well maintaining of the Parks and Library systems under the leadership of the Community Services District board.
WHO RUNS THE ELK GROVE POLICE DEPARTMENT?

The Elk Grove Community Services District (EGCSD) is an independent local government agency that provides parks, recreation, fire and emergency medical services. What we do not see on this list of services is police protection. Why is this service not included? It would seem that we should be able to call upon one unified city service agency -- The Elk Grove Community Services District for all essential services that includes police protection along with parks, recreation, fire and emergency medical services.

Yes, Elk Grove is a young incorporated city of 4 years. And yes, we need an effective local elected community representative who will address local community issues. Many of these issues and/or concerns have been passed on from previous generations. Today, Elk Grove citizens with young families may see things differently. Is the EGCSD focusing on Elk Grove citizen's progressive ideas as to what essential community services should be accessible? Will there be a candidate on the ballot who understands and represent them and will take steps accordingly? -- keeping their interest at the forefront!

As so many of us, I decided to relocate to this area because of its many attributes. The sense of community is definitely a strong draw and has induced me to become involved and participate in activities to maintain the integrity and progressive growth of the community in which I live.

The local politically elected community must represent all residents who are interested in the continued improvement and development of library activities, parks and recreational facilities and local services that each and every citizen expects to have at her/his fingertips.

Yet, Elk Grove appears not to have direct community control of its own police services.

Do you realize that Elk Grove citizens who contact the Elk Grove Police Department are actually contacting personnel who have been contracted by the Sacramento Sheriffs Department?

How many police personnel have been commissioned to protect Elk Grove citizens 24-7? Is it 115 or 215? More importantly, is the number of Elk Grove Police adequate for increased population growth that is now over 100,000?

Where I come from all local communities services were accessible at one place of government. Elk Grove population is over 100,000. I feel that Elk Grove deserves to have its own Police Department and should be included as one of the essential services of EGCSD.

I intend on addressing this pertinent questions and act upon it!

And, yes, it's a noble start. Today, with enthusiasm and excitement I feel that I am your candidate. I need your support and input. Vote for me, and when I'm elected as a Director of Elk Grove Community Services District on November 2, 2004, we will begin building our future one day at a time.
