Janet Nguyen currently serves as a Garden Grove Planning Commissioner and the District Director for Assemblyman Ken Maddox, of the 68th Assembly District. In addition, she is a former Garden Grove Traffic Commissioner (Vice-Chair), and a former board member for the Orange County Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board.

According to the Asian Pacific American Legislative Staff Association, Janet is the first Vietnamese-American in California to hold the District Director position for a state or federal legislator's office.

A long time resident of Garden Grove, Janet is a graduate of Garden Grove High School. She also attended University of California, Irvine where she received a Bachelor Degree in Political Science.

A strong supporter of education, Janet taught the Law Student Admission Test's (LSAT) preparation course to potential law students for Princeton Review. In addition, she owns a consulting business for public, government, and community relations.

Experienced in local government issues, Janet has worked for now retired Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, William G. Steiner, and retired Chairwoman Cynthia P. Coad. She began work for Assemblyman Maddox in May of 1999 as a Field Representative.

Janet has dedicated countless hours to different organizations throughout Garden Grove. She is currently a Board Member for the Garden Grove Hospital, Senior Meals on Wheels and the Grove Theatre Center. She is also an Associate Member of the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association and a member of Soroptimist International of Garden Grove.

As a result of her dedicated community service, Janet was awarded the We Give Thanks' 2004 Women of Vision Award. The organization began the Women of Vision award in 2001 to recognize outstanding women who have dedicated many years of invaluable contributions and outstanding service to the community.
