Financial Stability of the City of Gonzales

By George A. Worthy

Candidate for Councilmember; City of Gonzales

This information is provided by the candidate
The state continues to increase the amount of taxes withheld that have traditionaly been returned to muncipalities.
As the future holds doubtful restoration of the funds from the state that are earmarked for services in the city, the council must be proactive in maintaining all city services without causing hardships within city staff or public safety. This will require a much closer examination of projected expenses. The ability to forsee the needs of the city will be enhanced by the experience of the council. I believe that I have the experience to hold the line on discresionary spending. I have the background in finance that is gained from running a sucessful small business. Public safety is one of the most emotional issues facing any public servent and I take that responsibility very seriously. All efforts will be encouraged to find grant money and funds from the general fund in order to enhance the presence of police officers on our streets. In addition there should be no cutbacks of services if the proper balance is made between funds available and the needs of the citizens.
