County Inefficiency

By Joe Louis Wildman

Candidate for Supervisor; County of Mendocino; District 1

This information is provided by the candidate
Everyone knows that our County government is broke, but the bigger problem is that our County government is broken.
We can't adequately fix our roads, secure water rights and supplies, improve staffing in the Sheriff's Office, update the materials in our libraries + or meet any other public needs + working within the current convoluted, unaccountable County structure. We need to address the problems within our County government before we can effectively use County government to address the problems in our communities.

Mendocino County's organizational structure and divisions of responsibility have evolved over decades without comprehensive evaluation. The current structure, with over two dozen separate departments, makes poor business sense. As structured, our County government cannot meet current demands, much less the demands of the future + when Federal and State deficits will no doubt mean more unfunded mandates for local government. County structure is not the kind of issue most candidates highlight, but I highlight it here because this is precisely where the County needs to focus in order to improve its performance. And this is an area to which I can bring considerable energy and expertise.
