The Issues

By Douglas F. Crane

Candidate for Councilmember; City of Ukiah

This information is provided by the candidate
We need Council members who:
  • have formal training and experience with the laws and procedures of land use planning, building and maintaining infrastructure,

  • make decisions on the merits of the issues in the context of the rules, not the political agenda of the individual council members,

  • comply with all of the Ukiah General Plan, not just the parts that fit an individual Council person's political agenda,

  • have management and fiscal skills, and experience. We must cope with economic pressures including housing price increases so great that our children and elderly are often displaced. Growth pressures demand intelligent, informed choices to maintain our quality of life.

We need to return to the work started by prior Councils to balance resources with the need to have a healthy business climate.

We must create working partnerships to manage valley wide resources such as water, sewer and transportation infrastructure.

We must work to restore quality services, and safeguard the peace, safety and security of our neighborhoods and of all citizens and to see our existing parks and park restrooms open to the public instead of being locked.
