VOTER AWARENESS

By Kevin M. Schafer

Candidate for Council Member; City of California City

This information is provided by the candidate
Informed community results in an open dialog between voters and elected officials.
I am concerned that too many of our citizens are less than informed on the day to day activities of our town. We have council meetings that are broadcast on cable, which does not inform those who do not have cable or are satellite connected. We have a city website that is never kept up to date. Council meeting minutes are always months in arrears. Part of the website is still under construction after a year! This does not keep the public informed! And we have a local press who tends to make assumptions about who does and does not attend public forums. Furthermore, the reporting is neither fair or balanced.

So, I will insist that we schedule open forums, townhall meetings if you will on a regular basis, in order to bring the citizens out to voice their concerns, frustrations, or desires for the city. The city website will be updated and kept current! I want the idea to return that, Government is for the people and by the people, not for the elected officials. This town is the citizens town, not just a hobby for a few elected/appointed officials with a particular agenda.
