Carlos L'Dera is an elected Director of the Mountain Communities Town Council and is striving to end the pattern of community neglect and replace it with community involvement.

Carlos (he hates being called "Mister) founded Parents Demand in the year 2000 in order to deal with inequities and illegal activity of school district hierarchy. The organization has been successful in highlighting, and correcting many discrepancies in California schools. Carlos is the author of a resolution that has been adopted nationwide by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the oldest and largest Latino organization in the United States.

Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley awarded Carlos a commendation in recognition of his volunteer work with the homeless in Los Angeles.
