Hi! I'm Walter Ruehlig, a 58-year old life-long educator, devoted husband, father, grandfather, five-time foster parent and youth mentor. My son is a freshman at Deer Valley High School and my grandson is a third grader at Delta Vista Elementary School.

I am running for the Antioch School Board because we desperately need accountability from board members, teachers, parents and students. You can count on me to fight tirelessly for a first-class educational system because my own kids' future is at stake.

Thirty-six years ago, I dedicated my life to public service, teaching for the Peace Corps in a rural Turkish village with no electricity or running water. I learned two great lessons: (1) How to survive a perpetual blackout and (2) Knowledge is true power.

Today, the idealism continues. I am an independent thinker who will ask the tough questions; create checks and balances; be your eyes and ears so that we all learn from and correct yesterday's mistakes. Never again should the School Board be distracted by preventable crisis from its' guiding rationale of providing quality education to Antioch's children. Your vote will be honored.
