Orignally from the New York area, I arrived in Livermore in 1995. My first child entered school that fall. I didn't begin to notice the differences in educational programs and funding until a few years later. Then I got involved. PTA, School Site Council, Budget Advisory Committee, work in the classroom, coordinating the 8th grade Promotion Party. We need to teach our children not only academics but responsibility and the power of positive action.

I've taught English Conversation at a private school in Japan. That gave me a real feel for what it's like to be a teacher - budgeting your time both in and out of the classroom; all the extra work outside class time; the challenges and rewards of teaching young people.

My experience as an Accounts Receivable Supervisor gave me an appreciation for paying attention to the bottom line. This plus my training as a Chemical Engineer help me stay focused on the fact that dollars matter and that staying within the budget is key to doing the job properly. I do not want to risk being taken over by the state or county due to budget problems.
