An Art Community

By Ira Leitner

Candidate for Mayor; City of Dublin

This information is provided by the candidate
We can ensure that Town Center goes in as an Arts Community, attracting people here for food, great music, and magnificent paintings.
Dublin's Barnes and Noble had a mountain of Bob Dylan's Chronicles Volume 1 last Tuesday. By Wednesday, all I could buy was the last copy in the store.

I read that Bob hit New York City, and went directly to Greenwich Village and the Café Wha, where he played his first ever New York session. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was the first place I played as well.

It brought back memories of when I played Folk Music in the Village and Cambridge Square back in the 70's.

The East Dublin Specific Plan talks much about a community of the arts.

I have played and seen many enormously talented musicians in Dublin and this valley. While I have been fortunate to play here and around the United States, I did play many times at the old Celebrities in Dublin.

And I'm sad they couldn't make a go of it. The theme was right, the setting was pleasant, the food was great, and so was the coffee. The original owners tried hard to make a go of it.

I would hope we as a city can pool our talents and assure the new Town Center does have an artist community.

Five years ago in a local paper, I read Dublin would try and entice people from San Francisco to come here, eat delicious meals, and enjoy great music.

Would love to see an amphitheater on some vacant land still vacant in Dublin. We can throw benefit concerts, art shows, Shakespeare Summer Series, and Broadway Classics, where our kids can act or play instruments in the orchestra on school benefit productions.

We can do it!

We have an amazing diverse city with real neighborhoods. The type of setting where art flourishes and expands. This City is prime for the arts! Let's get it done, and have fun.
