During my first term I concentrated on quickly improving service and creating better relations with our financing sources, particulary the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
  • I brought attention to our poor rider complaint processing which was then improved greatly.

  • I started process of having AC Transit become a green company.

  • I greatly improved the service in the lowest income neighborhood in my Ward (the new 19 line)in West Oakland.

  • As Vice Chair of the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, oversaw the design and financing of the new integrated CalTrain, High Speed Rail, Muni, AC Transit, SamTrans, Golden Gate transit station to replace the dilapidated Transbay Terminal in San Francisco accompanied by four thousand new housing units, the largest Transit Village undertaking in the United States.

  • As chair of the Planning Committee, I turned the Short Range Transportation Plan into a true planning document rather than a pro-forma report to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

  • I have improved the relationship between AC Board and its staff, the Metropolitan Transportaion Commission, Alameda County Congestion Management Agency, Alameda County in general; and the Cities of Oakland and Emeryville in particular.

  • As chair of the Finance Committee, I brought greater attention to business operating and financial management issues at AC, particulary by initiating cash-flow reporting.

  • As Chair of the Operations Committee, I brought real-time arrival technology to AC (NextBus)and oversaw its implementation on San Pablo Avenue.

  • As Chair of the Operations Committee, I developed a solution for bus bunching that required no communication between drivers or with Central Dispatch. This solution was tested on 51 line and will be proposed for implementation on the other trunk lines when schedule adherence software is integrated into our GPS tracking.
