I am not running for the US Congress merely to oppose a particular man or woman, but to propose a new policy agenda. I run because I have extremely strong feelings about the direction and future of our country, and I feel obligated to do all I can for our nation. I run because my family has a proud history of supporting the Democratic Party. Democrats have long represented the common man, the average citizen, the hard-working American, and that's what my family was and still is today. I feel, however, that in recent years our party has lost its direction. I run to offer a new policy vision - policies to reconcile racism, policies to guarantee our children a quality public school education, policies to protect social security for our retired citizens and ensure its solvency for baby boomers, generation Xers, and all future generations. I run to secure affordable health care for all U.S. citizens.

I run to close the gaps between rich and poor and create brighter futures for minimum wage workers, low income Americans, our courageous veterans, and disabled Americans who deserve help. I run to concentrate even more on minority and women's issues.

I run on a platform rooted in basic middle-class American values and issues: honesty, a strong, growing economy, personal and fiscal responsibility, and a foreign policy agenda that protects America, her citizens, and our interests. I cannot stand aside while misguided policies decide our nation's and children's futures. Finally, I run to honor and keep alive the dreams of my personal hero, Robert Kennedy, whose vision was captured in these words: "Some men see things as they are and say, 'Why?' I dream of things that never were, and say, 'Why Not?'"
