Subject: Gay & Lesbian Human Rights/Oscar Gutierrez Candidate for Assembly 45th

My name is Oscar Gutierrez and I am running for California State Assembly in the 45th District as the Republican candidate. (Jackie Goldberg is the incumbent Democrat in my district)

I want to address you on the subject of gay and lesbian human rights. I feel the issue of gay and lesbian marriage has been over blown due to this election year (Both political parties use this and other issues for fund raising purposes, not to help fix but to create more social problems). This is an issue for the United States Supreme Court to decide on. I feel as a matter of public policy that same sex marriage should be legal in our country and in our state. Same sex couples should have fair and equal protection under the law afforded to them under the US. Constitution (All Americans Have the Right to Pursue Happiness). I want to clear the air and balance this issue as a fact of general human rights. The Democrats, Republicans and everyone in between in California have clouded the issue and made this a front burner topic when this is back end issue (The budget and the deficit are important issues). We need to move forward to more important issues like the state budget, the deficit and illegal immigration/SB-60, SB-1160 (Governor Schwarzenegger & Democrat State Senator, Gilbert Cedillo making back room deals to bring back driver's license for illegal immigrants is wrong and bad public policy).

I will tell the voters of the 45th district to Vote NO! On Prop. 55, Prop. 56, Prop. 57 & 58. I will Vote NO! across the board. I want to fix our state budget but not on the backs of the people of California with unfair over taxation. I want to make this point to all the candidates running for office whose focus is not on fiscal issues, That they should be not elected to office regardless of party if they do not intend to help fix the state deficit. I say this to you as fair-minded law and order fiscal conservative republican. (Same Sex Marriage would not hurt anyone and same sex marriage would promote monogamy/stability along with the ideals of family values. It would help in HIV/AIDS prevention by teaching minors/teenagers that abstinence from sex until marriage is a good idea). Our budget problems must take center stage and be the main focus. We are Americans with freedoms and rights. I fight to protect everyone's personal human rights. Let us fix the fiscal problems in California so we can have a better future for our children and our families.

Thank you for your time and I hope to discuss this and other issues with you later as election 2004 continues on.

Sincerely, Oscar Gutierrez
