Protect California's most precious resource by insuring a clean and healthy environment
Allan Dollison on our Environment: The environment in California is a very precious resource. The 1st District is proud to possess one of the crown jewels of the environment of California, to wit Lake Tahoe. We also have the beautiful Sierra-Nevada mountain range.

We need to look at our laws that target pollution, and insure that these precious resources are not threatened. This includes providing incentives for alternative fuels for our automobiles, as well as for energy production. Reducing our reliance on foreign imported crude oil will not only benefit our environment. It will help our economy and will address what has increasingly become a national security issue, in light of the fact that a very large supply of oil in this world is located in the Middle East. We need to burn trash instead of oil and natural gas to create energy. It is cleaner, safer, and in the long run cheaper.

I favor tough laws against corporate polluters. If precious California resources are polluted then it will harm our tourist industry, which is a vital source of income to this state.

We also need to make sure that our logging policy makes sense. If we just cut our forests down indiscriminately then we create a major fire hazard. Southern California suffered from great fires in October of 2003. If we adopt a logging policy dedicated to maximizing profit instead of considering the environment and the safety of our communities then the same disaster could happen here. I will address this important question if elected to the Senate.

When I ran for the California Assembly in 1994, I received the endorsement of the Sierra Club. I will once again seek their endorsement this year.

Finally the energy policy of this state over the last seven years, since the deregulation law passed has made us the laughing stock of the country. We were taken advantage of by large energy companies from the South who manipulated a flawed law to their own advantage. We need to aggressively criminally investigate these con-artists. We need to retrieve these funds that they illegally stole from California. Part of this process will be investigating their environmental compliance with the existing laws on the books. We can show to these corporate violators that they cannot fool around with California. This is one of my many priorities if elected to the Senate.
