Improve Education

By Peter D. "Pedro" De Baets

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 47; Libertarian Party

This information is provided by the candidate
Scholarship funds, reduce testing requirements, reduce bureaucracy.
Our very expensive public education system consistently ranks near the bottom in State-by-State rankings, teachers are burdened by testing mandates and low classroom funding, and many children are virtually "trapped" in some failing public schools.

To help resolve this we should Initiate Scholarship funds supported by Tuition Tax Credits (a program already successful in Arizona) to allow parents to put their children in better performing schools with the help of financial assistance from a school tuition organization. We should reduce public education bureaucracy to allow more funding to flow to classrooms. We should reduce/eliminate as many mandated testing requirements as possible so teachers will have more freedom to teach THEIR way. We should remove any bureaucratic obstacles to private and homeschooling.

For this solution, no additional taxpayer funding would be required. Minor bureaucratic costs of licensing school tuition organizations would be covered by savings in reduced student enrollment.
