I, like most constituents in the 12th District, are deeply concerned by the direction the Bush Administration is leading this country. The Administration's threatening posture towards the rest of the world has served mainly to isolate us, even from our longtime allies. Domestically, we are in grave danger of losing our civil liberties due to the ill-conceived USA Patriot Act which allows the government to monitor what books you've checked out of the library and what web sites you've visited.

I am also concerned about corruption in our government. Corporations spend billions of dollars to our politicians in exchange for hundreds of billions in handouts. The Enron scandal and Halliburton's "no-bid" contracts in Iraq are typical examples.

The leadership of both parties in Washington has been corrupted by special interests in corporations to such an extent that is hard to distinguish the parties from each other. The Democratic Party leadership did not fight nearly hard enough against the Bush Administration's unwavering drive to invade Iraq. Since I am not beholdent to special interests OR corporations, I will not be afraid to confront the Bush Administration head on.
