1. What does California need to do to address the current budget crisis?

Answer from Eli Wallace Conroe:

We need to cut spending! I know Governor Schwarzenegger said he would audit everything, open the books, etcetera. However, I do not think he is taking a hard enough look at what is extraneous, what is convenient, and what is absolutely vital. I would propose having a very minimal state government, with all the major decsisions going to localities such as the counties and cities. Individual municipalities can best determine what kind tax policy is best for their community. Also, the state should not fund anything that benefits individuals, small groups with specific agendas, and religious organisations.

2. What should the state's priorities be for K-12 education? For the Community College System?

Answer from Eli Wallace Conroe:

Funding for the K-12 system should be left up to the individual school districts. Districts should be able to monitor their specific needs and petition the community for money accordingly. On that note, I do not believe school districts should be burdened with students whose familys do not live in the community and cannot be taxed for school services. Foreigners should not be allowed in our schools except on a froeign exchange program or it can be proven they or their family has been taxed or is capable of being taxed. The community college system seems fine to me, and I do not forsee changes. (SWC!)

3. What measures would you support to address California's water needs?

Answer from Eli Wallace Conroe:

Go to the mountains and gather snow, then bring it to Palm Springs or Barstow or Death Valley National Park where it will melt into cool water!

4. What should the Legislature be doing to address the needs of Californians without health insurance?

Answer from Eli Wallace Conroe:

Debt incurred by seeking medical treatment without insurance is one's own responsibility! The state should not be burdened with such things. Encourage those without insurance to seek alternative and or cheaper forms of care.
