We must end our dependency on fossil fuels. One way to do this is to make trains and buses more attractive, by increasing availability and decreasing cost. Another way is to encourage walking and using bicycles for transportation. As a member of the San Carlos Bicycle/ Pedestrian Advisory Committee, I am proud to have been appointed by the City Council to investigate ways to make it safer and more convenient to walk and bicycle around San Carlos. The recent pedestrian death at the corner of San Carlos Avenue and Chestnut Street (let's not call it an "accident") illustrates the need for greater safety of those on foot. People who drive cars need to take greater care; the City authorities need to make changes which slow down the cars.
