Michael P. Ryan/ San Luis Obispo County 5th District Supervisor

Childhood: Born October 10, 1951 in Ireland and adopted by Joe and Dorothea Ryan of Creston in 1952. I was naturalized as a citizen of the United States in 1964.

Education: I attended the Creston two-room school through the 8th grade, then attended Atascadero High School. I graduated from AHS in 1970 and then attended Cuesta Junior College and from there went on to California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo where I majored in Agricultural Business Management.

Family: In 1976, I married Pamela Jesperson and we have two sons: Jesse, who is 20 years old and Jay, who is 18 years old. Jesse graduated from Atascadero High School in June on 1998, and Jay graduated in June of 1999. Pamela is employed as a Registered Dental Assistant, and we currently live on our ranch in Creston.

Community Involvement:

  • Creston Representative to the Santa Margarita Advisory committee
  • Member of the San Luis Obispo Fire Protection Ad hoc Committee
  • Organized the Creston Community Association
  • Founding Member of the Creston Volunteer Fire Department, certified in CPR, Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighter 1 Training, Engine Operation, and leadership training.
  • Served on the Board of Directors for the San Luis Obispo County Grain Improvement Association
  • Elected to the Board of Directors of the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau and Executive Committee; served as secretary, vice president and president.
  • Elected to the Atascadero Unified School District Board of Education. Served for three years as a Board Member and one year as Board President.
  • Served on the San Luis Obispo County Williamson Act Review Committee.
  • Member of the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce Agri-business Committee.
  • Served as a member of the Santa Lucia Regional Occupational Program Board of Directors.
  • Served as Secretary to the Creston Farm Center.
  • Governor appointed representative to the California Coastal Commission.
  • Member and current chairman of the Intigrated Waste Management Board.
  • Member of the California State Association of Counties Board of Directors.
  • Member of the Local Agency Formation Commission.
  • Member of the Economic Opportunity Commission Board of Directors.
  • Member of the Economic Vitality Corporation Board of Directors.
  • Member of the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council Board of Directors.
