Candidate for Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of San Francisco; Assembly District 12

A Democrat, Who Believes in Freedom of Choice.
I am a Democrat, pure and simple. I am not about being a closet Green or Republican, nor do I favor the utter disunity in the Democratic Party as currently exists in the political life of San Francisco. Currently, a great debate is raging as to whether the charter of local Democratic clubs that have endorsed non-Democratic candidates should be revoked. Although, in ninety-nine of one hundred cases, Democrats should endorse other Democrats, the choice of clubs to make determinations based on duly specified procedures should not be undermined by the county Democratic party. After all, the Democratic party is a large ideological tent, where debate and discussion take place at all levels of government.

How is the party to grow and evolve, if in the face of political challenges, the party binds and limits its ability to enter into formal or informal coalitions, discussions or negotiations with other political groups? I can foresee no positive developments if the local Democratic Party undertakes a purge of the very members that bring vigor and vitality at the most grass roots of levels. If Democratic clubs chose not to endorse a Democrat, it is not the fault of the members of the clubs, rather, it is the failure of the candidate to convince the members of the club that he or she is the best person for the job, pure and simple. To curtail all consideration of non-Democratic candidates is in my view a complete derogation of the principles that have constituted the hallmark of the Democratic Party.
