MALIK LOOPER is Director of Government and Community Relations for Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin Counties, Inc. Goodwillís mission is to train, support and challenge individuals to overcome barriers to employment and achieve self-sufficiency.

A lifelong Democrat, Malik has worked to support housing, community and economic development through local government and the nonprofit sector both as a representative of the Office of Community Development and as an independent consultant. He assisted the City & County of San Francisco in efforts to organize community-based, long range strategic planning and implementation of President Clinton's Empowerment Zones/Enterprise Communities Initiative.

Malik's earlier employment in the nonprofit sector includes management of an affordable housing development for formerly homeless, employable individuals living in the Tenderloin for the Chinese Community Housing Corporation.

As the eldest of four children raised born and raised in San Francisco by Leroy and Kathy Looper, Malik's involvement in Democratic politics and community building issues began at a young age. The elder Loopers are locally and nationally recognized for their many years of service to the City and for their energetic neighborhood activism. Following in their footsteps, Malik has served in numerous service and leadership positions in community-based and civic organizations and on the Board of Directors of the BVHP YMCA, Bayview Opera House and Infusion-One. Malik is committed to the building of the local Democratic Party through aggressive voter registration and education.

Homeowners in the Excelsior District, Malik is married to Isa Hershoff-Looper, a family therapist, and father to Malik, Jr. who enjoys skateboarding, video games, and attends public school.

In 2002, San Francisco Assemblyman Mark Leno (AD13) appointed Malik Looper to the Democratic County Central Committee as his proxy representative. He continues to fulfill that commitment and will be on the March 2, 2004 ballot as a candidate for the Democratic County Central Committee in the 12th Assembly District.
