Enrique Colin has about 12 years of extensive criminal law experience and has handled over one thousand cases. As a government attorney, he has handled misdemeanor and felony jury trials in the adult courts and court trials in the juvenile courts. He has also conducted preliminary examinations, argued motions and conducted other evidentiary hearings. He has a reputation for being fair, ethical, reasonable and professional. In light of his experience as a trial attorney, his qualifications and community service, he seeks your support and vote at the election on March 2, 2004.

Enrique Colin has been married for 6 years to Gina Colin. They live in the Evergreen area of San Jose. Gina has been a resident of San Jose for about 28 years, and Enrique has been a resident of San Jose/South Bay for nearly 20 years. In spring 2004, Enrique and Gina are expecting their first child.

In May 1991, Enrique Colin graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar in December 1991. Since then, he has worked as a government attorney in the Public Defender's Office. In addition to working as a trial attorney, he has also served on the Research Team and trained and supervised other attorneys in the Juvenile Division.

Throughout his career, Enrique Colin has been actively involved in professional organizations including the Santa Clara County Bar Association (Board of Trustees 1994 & 1995), La Raza Lawyers Association (past President, Secretary and Treasurer), National Hispanic Bar Association and the California Public Defender's Association.

Mr. Colin was on the Juvenile Mental Health Court Committee that pioneered the Court for the Individualized Treatment of Adolescents. He helped develop the protocol for this innovative approach to serving seriously mentally ill juvenile offenders.

In addition, Enrique Colin has served on many other committees including the Judiciary Committee of the Santa Clara County Bar Association (2002), the Santa Clara County Minority Access Committee (past chair), Hispanic National Bar Association Convention Planning Committee (2003), and the Family Education Foundation START Advisory Committee (serving adults and juveniles with learning disabilities).

Because of his commitment to our youth and extensive experience in the Juvenile Court, Enrique Colin was selected to serve on the Status Offender Services Task Force convened by the County Executive's Office. This group worked to prevent youth from involvement in the juvenile justice system, promote school attendance, and ensure the safety of our youth.

Enrique Colin has been on the Board of Directors of the San Jose Conservation Corps for the past 6 years and will continue to serve our community in that capacity. For several years he has served as the Secretary, and in the past, he was the chair of the Career Development Committee. Moreover, he has counseled some of the corps members and given presentations on legal issues at community meetings on Friday mornings.

In addition to his service to the Corps, Enrique Colin has extensive community service. He has served as a mentor to high school, college and law school students. He was a volunteer income tax assistance preparer serving the elderly and Spanish-speaking filers in the Sacred Heart community. He has been a guest speaker at our local middle, junior and high schools. He helped a local Boy Scout troop earn its law badge by having the scouts conduct a mock trial. For several semesters, he was an instructor for a trial advocacy course at Santa Clara University School of Law, and he also served as a "judge" for the course's mock trial.

Lastly, he served our country when he was on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1979 to 1982. Part of his tour of duty included service on the USS Midway which was on alert status during the Iran Hostage crisis. For this service he was awarded a Navy Expeditionary Medal. Mr. Colin was honorably discharged.

In all of his endeavors, Enrique Colin has treated others with respect and fairness. As a judge, he will listen to both sides, treat people with respect, and be fair.
