Preside fairly and expeditiously over all legal proceedings.

Manage all Court matters efficiently and effectively.

Encourage changes that increase the Court's ability to serve the public, and expand community outreach:

  • Provide child care for jurors, witnesses, plaintiffs, and defendants at a reasonable cost

  • Hold after-hours court + in evenings and on Saturdays

  • Convene some proceedings in places other than the Civic Center, as was done in the past in Point Reyes Station

  • Computerize the Court's files to allow the public and litigants to readily inspect non-confidential filings and rulings

  • Institute Mental Health and Domestic Violence Courts

  • Allow jurors to respond to their summons via the Internet, to request up to two postponements, either in writing or via the Internet, as is done in Alameda County

  • Advocate that both the bench and the bar give classes and lectures on the law and hold mock trials in schools and other community settings
