Denise Munro Robb Candidate for Member, County Council, District 3 GPLAC 3/04

Dear Greens:

I am running in the March, 2004 election for County Council. This will be a contested election and there are only 6 available seats. I am seeking your endorsement.

I am currently serving my first elected term as County Councilmember for the Green Party of Los Angeles County. My first goal was to attempt to bring harmony to the County Council. To that end I helped organize an all day retreat for the council.

Another goal I had was to make sure the GPLAC endorsed candidates and ballot initiatives. I believe this is one of the basic services we can offer to the locals and the 29,000 Greens we currently serve. I co-chaired the election committee and wrote the candidate questionnaire. We joined with the LA Greens' endorsement committee and came up with a list of recommendations that we disseminated via email and at tabling events.

I also believe the County should help encourage and train Greens to run for office. I was a featured speaker at a campaigns and candidates forum at Loyola Law School. I also organized a candidates' event at a restaurant this year and invited those who ran for office, those who currently hold office and those who might be interested in running for office. This event seemed to be a big hit with everyone and we received some new members for the Green Party and a few people who intend to run for office.

There are still many more things to be done. I would like to assist the County in the following:

  • Raising enough money to purchase literature
  • Provide materials to LOFO (local formation task force)
  • Provide incentives so that locals wish to affiliate with the county
  • Sponsor more candidate forums
  • Do a mailing to all 29,000 Greens and invite them to become active with all of our locals.

I am currently attempting to mail 29,000 envelopes out in the sample ballot with the help of the County. If we can overcome the County's hurdles we may be able to complete the last item on that list by March, 2004.

I currently serve as co-facilitator of the LA Greens. I have also taken on the job of assistant treasurer in recent weeks. I served as Co-Facilitator of the GPLAC for one year, and still serve as Endorsement Chair. I am a graduate student working on my Ph.D. in political science at UC Irvine, and I've been active with the Green Party for many years. I ran for LA City Council in the 9/11/01 election and was able to raise approximately $70,000 and receive the LA Weekly's endorsement.

I would appreciate your endorsement in the March 2004 election.

Thank you for your consideration.

Peace,

Denise Munro Robb http://www.DeniseMunroRobb.com
