DANIEL FELDSTERN FOR SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE Seat No. 18

BIOGRAPHY

Veteran prosecutor Daniel Feldstern has served as a Deputy District Attorney since 1986. He is currently the head of the Glendale and Burbank Court Office where he supervises a staff of prosecutors who handle thousands of felony and misdemeanor cases. For the past 18 years, he has acquired a diverse legal background, having worked some of the toughest assignments in the DA's Office, including the Major Narcotics, Hardcore Gang, and Special Investigations Divisions. While assigned to these prestigious specialized units, he prosecuted members of Columbian drug cartels, operators of large clandestine drug laboratories, gang murderers, and public officials accused of fraud and corruption.

Although Daniel has spent most his career in court trying serious felony cases, his status within the DA's Office has risen to administrative levels. He headed the Sylmar Juvenile Office, one of the largest juvenile offices in the county. While combating school truancy and working to ensure that juvenile offenders were held accountable for their crimes, Daniel developed expertise in juvenile law and procedure, subjects on which he frequently lectures. As the current head deputy in Glendale and Burbank, he continues to oversee thousands of felony and misdemeanor cases, while working closely with judges, law enforcement agencies and the citizens in his jurisdiction to ensure the highest quality of criminal prosecution.

As a measure of his accomplishments and the respect he has earned, Daniel has received numerous awards and certificates of appreciation from various law enforcement agencies and the District Attorneys Office. He was also invited to participate on the DA's Special Circumstance Committee, helping to decide which cases merit the death penalty. It is not surprising that Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley has personally endorsed Daniel and is actively supported his candidacy. Daniel is the only candidate in his race to have received Cooley's endorsement. Many other public officials, law enforcement and victims' rights organizations and judges have given Daniel their endorsements and support.

Before joining the District Attorneys Office, Daniel was an associate attorney for the law firm of Trope and Trope, a highly regarded civil litigation firm that specializes in family law and business litigation. He was a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Family Law Section, and helped write parts of the Family Law practice and procedure manual. With his experience in civil litigation, Daniel brings both criminal and civil law background to judicial candidacy.

Daniel was raised and educated in Los Angeles. He graduated from Fairfax High School, where he was the Student Body Vice-President and Co-Captain of the Varsity baseball team. He later graduated from Occidental College with Cum Laude and Departmental honors while also playing NCAA baseball and participating in drama and competitive public speaking. Daniel went on to graduate from Southwestern University School of Law and served as a member of the Southwestern Law Review. He worked his way through law school as a law clerk in civil litigation firms and also clerked for Retired United States Federal Magistrate John R. Kronenberg.

Daniel is active in the legal community and is a member of several organizations, such as the California District Attorneys Association, the Association of Los Angeles District Attorneys, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association where he served on the Judicial Elections Evaluation Committee.

Daniel also enjoys volunteering his time to community service, mostly to children and young adults. He manages and coaches youth baseball and basketball teams, and has spent several years working for "Project L.E.A.D." teaching a weekly course in decision-making to disadvantaged Fifth Grade students. Daniel also participates in the Constitutional Rights Foundation Mock Trial Competitions, which enables senior and junior high school students to acquire a working knowledge of the judicial system.

Daniel resides in the San Fernando Valley. He is married to Lisa Kahn, a fellow prosecutor who heads the District Attorney's Forensic Science Section and is a nationally recognized expert in DNA evidence. Daniel and Lisa share a career commitment to public service and to promoting public safety and the rights of crime victims.

Daniel enjoys spending his free time with Lisa and their nine-year old son, Nicholas.
