Biography for Eric C. Bauman

Eric Bauman has long been active in Democratic politics. He is currently the Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party (Central Committee), a position he has held since July 2000. LACDP is the largest local Democratic Party in the United States.

He is the Lead Co-Chair of the California Democratic Party's National Convention Delegate Selection Committee, and is serving his third term as Co-Chair of the California Democratic Party's Elections and Organization Committee. He is a member of the California Democratic State Central Committee and the California Democratic Party Executive Board.

Eric held leadership positions in both of President Clinton's campaigns and Vice President Al Gore's campaign. He was a member of the President's Health Care Reform team. He has been involved in dozens of other state and local campaigns.

Bauman is the Deputy Commissioner for the newly established Community Relations Branch of the California Department of Insurance; His responsibilities include direction of the California Organized Investment Network (COIN), Consumer Industry Education Initiative, Low Cost Auto, and Low Income Community Outreach programs. Additionally, he supervises the outreach programs of the Consumer Services & Market Conduct Branch. He joined Insurance Commissioner Garamendi's staff in December 2003.

Previously, Eric served as Special Assistant to Governor Gray Davis and Director of the Governor's Los Angeles Regional Office.

In addition to directing the Governor's LA office, Bauman served as the Governor's liaison to the LGBT and HIV/AIDS communities. He had a major role in the broad range of issues affecting southern California and health care policy.

Bauman is a Registered Nurse with graduate education in Health Care Administration. He spent many years in Intensive Care and Trauma nursing before moving into hospital administration. In 1991, Eric co-founded a health care management consulting firm, Consultants in Nursing Services Administration, specializing in the administrative, staffing and information system needs of hospital nurses.

Bauman is a past member of the American Cancer Society (San Fernando Valley region) board of directors and formerly was a member of the American Heart Association (northwest region) board.

Bauman served as President of Stonewall Democratic Club from February 1994 until July 2001. He was a founding board member of the National Stonewall Federation and served as its Chair in 2001.

Eric has received many awards over the years, including the 2004 California Democratic Party "Bob Mack Activist of the Year Award," the 2004 California Young Democrats "Willie L. Brown Mentor of the Year Award," 2003 Harvey Milk Award from the Christopher Street West Association, Stonewall Democratic Club's Member of the Year in 2002, Action Democrat's Distinguished Service Award in 2001, ECCO's Political Service Award in 2000. In 1995 he was selected as the Democrat of the Year for the 40th Assembly District.
