Biographical Highlights
  • Occupation: Educator
  • Dennis is a third generation Oaklander and nationally recognized educator with thirty years as a public school teacher, principal and Superintendent.
  • He grew up east of High Street on 46th Ave. and attended Horace Mann Elementary, Calvin Simmons Middle School and Fremont High.
  • During his term as Superintendent, Oakland schools made their most dramatic academic gains in thirty years.

Top Priorities if Elected
  • IMPROVE financial oversight and assistance to local districts. Alameda County has more troubled districts than any other county in the state.
  • REFORM th county's juvenile justice schools and improve academic achievement. Current test scores are the lowest in the state.
  • CREATE a forum for sharing new ideas and best practices. Make Alameda County Office of Education a leader in innovation and reform.

We must do more in terms of prevention and assistance to keep our local districts in financial health. Collabosration and partnership are the key.
Education in the Juvenile Justice System
We must concentrate on developing individual learning plans and assisting the youngsters most in need to transition back into the public school setting.
Innovation and Reform
We must be committed to sharing the best local practices county wide. Every local district has areas where they succeed and areas where they struggle. We must collaborate so as it reinforce our success' and overcome our challenges.
