Major Projects under Consideration

By Mary E. Speidel

Candidate for Member Council; Village of Evendale

This information is provided by the candidate
I am in favor of funding the Gorman Heritage Farm and the Civic Center Building projects, and installing walk/bike trails thoughout the Village. The Village should continue to purchase properties along the east side of Reading Road, and retain these properties as open, green spaces that will eventually make Reading Road a park-like boulevard through the heart of Evendale.
I support both the Gorman Heritage Farm and Civic Center Building projects because they are important to the Village's heritage and history. I also support Phase I of the Recreation Department's master plan, establishing walk/bike trails throughout the Village.

Rather than seeking economic business development along the east side of Reading Road, my vision is that all the land acquired should be retained as green space and used for recreational purposes, such as a tie-in with the proposed walking trail system, bench and picnic areas, an additional shelter facility, lawn bowling and bocce courts, etc.. The Village should continue to buy property as it becomes available through property owner's agreement, NOT through Eminent Domain. The Village is not dependent upon tax revenue that would be derived from business development along the east side of Reading Road. Keep in mind that this real estate will increase in value over time and could always be sold off for development if necessary for Village financial reasons.
