1. How would you implement your top priority?

Answer from Jim C. Rolfes:

Examine all expenditures to insure that the taxpayers are getting maximum value for the tax dollars being spent. Make sure the Village obtains any grants available for projects throughout the Village. Streamline the process of government and make it more efficient.

Answer from Shirley A. Smith:

There is a small piece of property on an old lake bed. I would like to see ball fields and a WMCA with a pool. At this time there isn't a place for the youth. To keep your future Mayor and counsil you need to keep your youth.

2. Numerous important issues including transportation, land use planning, housing and economic development for the Greater Hamilton County regions are being deliberated by OKI's Land Use Commission and Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission and Planning Partnership COMPASS; how engaged should local government be in these planning activities? If elected, how would you participate in these planning activities?

Answer from Shirley A. Smith:

I attend these meetings. A mayor needs to be awawre of important decisions to bring back to the village and council. I also appoint a council person to serve on the attending of meeting to make sure there is representation at all events. Compass is very important.

Answer from Jim C. Rolfes:

The Village of North Bend is a member of the Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission. I will see that we continue in that capacity and actively participate in the process.

3. Ohio Department of Natural Resources in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Recycling Coalition conducted a state-specific study and found recycling businesses in Ohio generated $650.6 million dollars in state government revenue. If elected how would you promote recycling and support recycling programs currently in place in your community to reduce solid waste generation?

Answer from Jim C. Rolfes:

The Village already has a recycling program through our waste collection service. It is a voluntary program which should be supported officially by the Village.

Answer from Shirley A. Smith:

I support Recycling. I would promote this in our council meetings (which are on cable) and make handouts available at our post office.
