1. How would you implement your top priority?

Answer from Kathryn Al-Lamadani:

I believe the School Board is entrusted with providing students a safe learning environment with a highly qualified and motivated faculty and staff. They must be encouraged to pursue professional growth opportunities. The completion of the new buildings project must be overseen with careful detail to achieve optimism advantage for students, faculty, staff and community. It is also extremely important to balance the budget and make sure tax dollars are spent wisely and prudently.

Answer from John D. McClure:

I would recommend providing increased opportunities to students who are now excluded from "gifted" instruction due to lack of available teachers as well as assuring that all students with "special" needs receive sufficient assistance. The reading program at primary school needs particular attention.

Answer from Lawre Finn-Bonekemper:

IH has a solid track record of academic excellence. The district is focused on differentiating instruction to address the diverse learning needs of students. This is a challenging goal for our teachers and staff as it requires a continuous process of teaching method assessment, knowing & understanding student needs, changing classroom strategies and meeting state requirements. The process is going well and will need on-going evaluation and support from the board.

2. How can the School Board work with local government and the community on use of school facilities for after school programs and recreations?

Answer from Lawre Finn-Bonekemper:

This topic represents a huge opportunity for the district. Currently, the district supports many community recreation sports programs, offers computer classes and will soon have a wellness center. The sports programs could be expanded to provide adult leagues or more open gyms for the community to have increased access to the facilities. Adult volunteers or students needing community service hours could supervise the activities to keep expenses down. It'd be win-win for all.

Answer from John D. McClure:

A village council member currently serves on the Indian Hill Recreation Commission. A school representative should also be a member of the Recreation Commission. A school representative should also be a member of the Recreation Commission. This would permit greater cooperation and coordination between the Village and the school with respect to the many programs currently being offered by the Recreation Commission.

Answer from Kathryn Al-Lamadani:

Since there are new buildings opening in 2004, the Board could expand adult education classes Open gym nights could provide the community with basketball, volleyball and exercise classes. The facility could be an opportunity for creating evening forums/discussions of pertinent issues between local government and residents. The community must be included in programs that provide them with a connection and ownership of our India Hill Schools.
