I have a long history with the Empire District. My mother was born, raised, and attended Empire Elementary School as did several other family members. My first job as a young person was cutting peaches on my great-aunt's farm in the rural area of Empire. My family has been members of the Empire Church of the Brethren for many years. I worked at J.C. Penney's during high school and became a full-time assistant bookkeeper after graduation. I attended Modesto Junior College and LaVerne College for two years. I took a leave from college and became a legal secretary for 6 years -2 years in Modesto and 4 years in Beverly Hills. I then enrolled in California State University, Stanislaus where I completed a B.A. in Social Sciences and a Life Time Standard Teaching Credential. I retired in June of 2003 after 31 years of teaching in the Empire District - 2 years at Empire Elementary and 29 years at Capistrano Elementary. I am a past member of the American Business Women's Association and was an Advisor to a Homeowner's Association for 8 years. During the time of my teaching career, I was involved in many District and School committees, including technology, curriculum, safety, school attendance, and Booster Club. I am a past vice-president and representative of the Empire Teachers' Association. I have an adult son who is a Campus Supervisor at Johansen High School. Many of my family members are involved in education from registrars, consultants, teachers to campus supervisor. I feel I have the background and knowledge to help lead the Empire School District into the future.
