Quality Education with Growth

By Lori L. Kalika

Candidate for Trustee; Turlock Joint Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Considering our city's recent growth, I want to work to ensure we continue to offer quality education to our children.
Growth often can present financial problems with over-crowding, insufficient funding.

Growth can also present social problems that can affect the quality of education of our children. We are finding that many of our new community members are not working in the area. Students have less contact with their parents, parents have less time to be involved with their schools. Problems such as a rise in gang activity, must be acknowledged and a plan put in place to ensure that the schools are prepared to meet these issues.

As a school board we need to consider the changes that we can make to help indidvidual schools face these challenges. We can't ignore growth but we can work to ensure that our schools have that "small-town" feel and provide a secure and stimulating environment for our children.
