My guiding principal is opportunity. My parents were working class immigrants from Mexico. My father was a day laborer who became a union boilermaker. Neither of them graduated from high school, but they taught me that this was a City of openness and opportunity for all. They lived the American Dream through their children. As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, as a woman, a Latina, a lesbian, this City has given me opportunities that I could find nowhere else in the world. Rapidly, I see those opportunities for people like my family slipping away in our city. I'm running to give that opportunity back to the city I love. I'm running to preserve that opportunity for all San Franciscans # the opportunity to hold a good job, the opportunity for a quality education, a clean environment, safe streets, an affordable home and a better life.
