Creating Local Government Awarness

By Jeannice (Fairrer) Samani

Candidate for Council Member; City of Los Altos

This information is provided by the candidate
Los Altos government position paper that is used as a strategic planning tool to measure the performance of core services, balance the city budget and provides a benchmark for the City Council. Moreover, providing an awearness of the decision-making process to the community and city staff.
One of my top priorities is to implement the Los Altos Government Position Paper (LAGP). This position paper would provide an overview of the city's core services and the decision-making responsibility of the City Council. The LAGP will provide a cohesive document for interested parties, that will be implemented and available for review by the citizenry of Los Altos as well as;used as a tool by city staff, labor leaders and the City Council. The general framework is based on a performance measurement model that can be used for the decision-making process that will provide benchmarks for city services. The concept of performance-based measurement model is the investment in citzen-focused results. This will require a community-wide effort to investigate the performance and assess the outcomes.

The LAGP is a planning tool would engage the residents, city employees, service providers, and community agencies. The Los Altos Government Position Paper would present an organized strategic framework for decision-making, clear representation of the goals, objectives and performance measurements for the City Council. Moreover, the process would provide benchmarks for accountability for the City Council and sustainability for the city.

The economic downturn has affected our local economy as well as the federal and state resource allocations. The knowledge of the partnerships, core service assessments, alignment to the mission, for a viable budget is critical to maintain quality of life in Los Altos. The position paper would provide knowledge of past and on-going reforms that the City Council as efficiently and effectively organized as a decision-making body.

The residents in the city have a strong regard for quality of life issues. The LAGP would respond to the questions in the core city service areas and address the quality of life that encompasses; the education in our community, youth and senior services, economic growth, environment, transportation/traffic,housing, improvement of city services, capital improvements, technology, strategic alliances with agencies, community unification, and critical government education.

As a City Council Member I will lead the awareness in local government within Los Altos and particularly where performance leads to improving services to local communities and partnerships between local governments, businesses, and State government. I possess a diverse skill set with the abilities to assess complex matters, effectively communicate, perfected the art of multi-tasking, and work well within a team dynamic to solve issues. My successful track record in business and organizational development, city and regional planning-community/economic development, redevelopment-land-use, financial stewardship, and education will empower the citizens with representation on the City Council.
