Ethnic Tensions in Cupertino

By Deborah C. Barrett

Candidate for Council Member; City of Cupertino

This information is provided by the candidate
I feel it is imperative to address this problem head on, rather than ignore it and hope it will go away.
As most Cupertinians are aware, there has been an escalating climate of ethnic tensions, particularly between Asian and Caucasian residents of Cupertino.

During the time that I was circulating my petition, many of the people I spoke with expressed serious concerns about these tensions.

If elected, I would work to create focus groups and forums for frank discussion of these issues, involving citizens from the many different ethnicities residing in the City of Cupertino.

I believe that it is only through frank and open discussion that we will be able to come to solutions which are fair to all Cupertino citizens, and which will allow us to enjoy the benefits of a truly multicultural community.
