Smart Voter Official Statement for Brian B. Barnwell

Candidate for
City Council Member; City of Santa Barbara

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: Businessman

Education and Qualifications:

I am running for the City Council to help shape Santa Barbara's future and to protect her unique character. As a City planning Commissioner, Businessman, Housing Mediator and volunteer in our public schools, I have worked to protect our quality of life. I first came to Santa Barbara as a teenager in 1963 and am committed to using my expertise and passion to tackle our shared challenges.

The state financial crisis makes it imperative that we choose leaders who have experience working with budgets. The lack of workforce housing and area-wide transportation threatens our future and demands innovative solutions, both locally and regionally. We need preservation policies to safeguard our neighborhoods. We must protect the treasure of our beautiful environment, our creeks and our beaches. We must create more recreational opportunities for local youth and work cooperatively with the Schools.

I love Santa Barbara and want to protect our way of life. I am honored to have the support of Mayor Blum, former Mayor Harriet Miller and five current City Council members. I will bring experience, confidence and leadership. I will be hard working, open-minded, accessible and fair. I ask for your vote.

Thank you.
