Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Jory K. Prum

Candidate for
Member, Town Council; Town of Fairfax

As a community participant in Fairfax for nearly 5 years, I have a great appreciation for how unique our town is. And I think there are many ideas I can contribute to make this an even better place.

First, I think Fairfax should take a more active role in encouraging alternate transportation. Traffic is getting worse each month, so why not make it easier for people to ride their bicycles? One way to do this would be to provide bike racks so they have a place to park in town.

Additionally, the town needs to promote its businesses by keeping Fairfax dollars in Fairfax and bringing outside dollars in. Ways to do this include holding contests where local businesses would dontate gift certificates in exchange for judged advertising and holding Town- sponsored events.

In fact, Town-sponsored events can be an excellent way to pay for services for the residents. Some events I would like to see are mountain biking races (Fairfax is the home of mountain biking, right?) and a Bacchus Wine Festival, which would be kicked off by having Alan Bengyel, the Town Manager, parade down Broadway at 4pm on the Summer solstice wearing only a toga and sandals.

Using income from these events, the town should be able to provide high-speed wireless internet access to all its residents without additional cost.

I would also create a Fairfax Towelie Band Committee to handle PR and television news crews that continue to pester our town with a story that doesn't exist.

Finally, I will quell anxieties at Town Council meetings by being a cooler head, requiring that Councilmembers respond to Open Time comments only in pig latin, and have an intern on-hand to perform emergency foot massages for frustrated onlookers.
