Effective Boardsmanship

By Marjorie H. Troutman

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Monterey Peninsula Unified School District; Trustee Area 2

This information is provided by the candidate
Cooperation and communication will result in an effective educational setting for our children.
How can Board Members be most Effective?

It is imperative the Board of Education continues to work with Admnistration to ensure the budget remains balanced and that money is spent wisely.

Board members should continuously update themselves on District issues: monetary, personnel, and curriculum. This entails reading, visiting school and work sites, and asking relevant questions. Positive relationships with all personnel are important and should be nurtured.

Board members need to couple their own research with information from administration before making decisions. However, as information shifts, and issues change, it is right that Board decisions be modified to reflect these changes and better serve students.
