This information is provided by the candidate

As your Water Board representative, I pledge to:

• Protect your right to vote on water supply projects

• Protect and restore the Carmel River

• Prohibit water profiteering

• Develop a drought-proof, affordable water supply project.

I support the public interest. As a public agency attorney, I am very familiar with the Brown Act (also called the Open Meetings Act), the Public Records Act, and other laws that protect the public.

I support the public's right to vote for Water Board directors. Local voters must keep control of the local water supply. The Water Management District is a resource management agency, and protects our public trust resources. This important role should not be taken away by special interests.

For many years, the Water Board was out of sync with the local voters. Then, in 1999, the "new" environmental Water Board opposed the dam for the first time. Now the Board is well under way with a project that appears to be acceptable to the voters. The administrative draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is complete, and the draft EIR will be released soon for public review. Those efforts should continue in the public interest.
