Director; Monterey Peninsula Water Management District; Division 5

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I have represented Carmel, Carmel Highlands and Carmel Valley on the Water Board for the past four years.

I am running for re-election and am especially proud to be endorsed by Fred Keeley.

My record speaks for itself. I worked with the other board members to challenge water credit transfers, which allow water profiteering with no demonstrable savings of water. We improved the steelhead fishery recovery with a state-of-the-art fish holding facility at Sleepy Hollow. We fought off the attempt to take away the voters' rights to vote on new water projects and to directly elect members of the Water Board. We authorized second bathrooms. We came up with a desalination project that deserves community support.

This coming term, the Board must continue our work to protect the Carmel River. Together, we must stop Cal- Am's harmful and illegal policy of over pumping.

In addition, the Water Board will continue its evaluation and pursuit of a small desalination plant at Sand City that will be controlled by the voters. We are on schedule to have the Water District electorate vote to approve this water replacement project in November 2004. Once built, and if it is operating successfully, the plant could be expanded depending upon approval by the voters.

I want to keep the public's right to vote on water supply projects. The public will pay for a project, so the public should have the right to approve it.

This is a very important election and I need your help. Hotel and Golf Course money will be used to pay for my opponent's campaign to eliminate your vote.

The public support of those who know my record and my commitment to preserve the quality of life here will be my campaign's most valuable asset.
